The inaugural concert of the 27th edition of the Early Music Festival of Úbeda and Baeza - FMAUB took place on 25th November in the Sacred Chapel of the Saviour. The concert, given by the Belgian vocal group VOX LUMINIS and conducted by Lionel Meunier, marked the beginning of twenty concerts and academic activities that will take place in the two World Heritage Cities of Úbeda and Baeza from 25 November to 9 December.
The musical programme was based on the two great composers of the Renaissance, Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611) and Cristóbal de Morales (1500-1553). The opening was led by the Motet VADAM ET CIRCUIBO CIVITATEM and followed by other pieces by the Avila-born chapel master, together with two works by such as the Parce mihi, Domine' of the Officium defunctorum from Cristóbal de Morales.
In the second part, you could listen to the Swan Song by Tomás Luis de Victoria its Officium defunctorum which would mean the end of the imitative polyphony that dominated the European musical concept.
