On Saturday 8 June 2024, an event that is becoming a classic of the month of June in Seville took place: the 6th edition of the tribute parade a Diego Velázquez on the occasion of his 425th birthday. The tour took in the city's main sites linked to the remembered Andalusian artist, such as his birthplace and the Church of San Pedro, where he was baptised, among others.
The Velázquez's Birthplace and the Tercio de Olivares Association in collaboration with the Ducal House of Medinaceli Foundation, organised this parade, which started at Casa de Pilatos, where the painter's father-in-law and teacher, Francisco Pacheco, took part in the humanist gatherings of the III Duke of Alcalá. The latter was one of the artist's first patrons in his early years, for whom he painted Christ in the House of Martha and Mary and Two Boys at Table, among other works, which left the Medinaceli collection at an as yet undetermined date.
During the parade, the soprano Irene Román and the guitarist Paula Brieba have performed several baroque songs of the 17th century. The event culminated in front of the painter's birthplace with a recreation by the Tercio de Olivares of the famous work of art. "The Surrender of Bredaalso known as "Las lanzas".
