Completion of the assembly of one side of the choir stalls of the choir loft of El Salvador de Úbeda.

30 March 2012

The work of the carver and assembler Blas de Briño, this stalls were made between 1556 and 1561 by order of the Dean Ortega, who acted on behalf of the widow of Don Francisco de los Cobos, Doña María de Mendoza. Dismantled to save it from the plundering that the Chapel suffered during the Civil War, most of its fundamental pieces, those with figurative carvings, have been preserved. After a patient restoration and reconstruction, with the help of photographs and original documentation, of the lost pieces that formed its structure, it has been possible to reassemble the Gospel side of this magnificent Renaissance choir stalls in the choir loft.
