On 4 July 2024, the Casa Ducal de Medinaceli Foundation and the town council of Úbeda have made public the agreement for the revitalisation of the monumental complex of El Salvador The document therefore becomes fully effective once the city council has obtained the approval of the urban planning modifications necessary to develop the actions foreseen in the agreement. This package includes the Sacred Chapel of the Saviour, on Hospital de los Honrados Viejos del Salvador and the palaces of Francisco de los Cobos and his father Diego de los Cobos.
The purpose is to recovery of your unit by means of a formal garden and the restoration of the whole complex. Thus, it foresees the continuation and correction of the rehabilitation of the Palacio de los Cobos as the headquarters of the Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia, the rebuilding of the de Diego de los Cobos and the restoration and adaptation of the Hospital de los Honrados Viejos del Salvador as an exhibition centre for the Saint John the Baptist Child by Michelangelo, The main nucleus of a museum area that will extend through what is known as the bell-ringer's house and will bring together what has survived of the artistic heritage of the Chapel of the Saviour.
The project is well advanced and will be presented shortly for approval by the competent administrations.
