On the occasion of next Sunday's celebration of the "Archive Day the tapestry hall of the Tavera Hospital hosted, on 5 and 6 June 2024, the I Encuentro de Investigadores del Archivo Ducal de Medinaceli (First Meeting of Researchers of the Ducal Archives of Medinaceli). The meeting provided an opportunity to share the results of the research of some of the researchers who, for some years now, have been visiting the two archives that the Ducal Archive of Medinaceli has been in charge of for the last few years. Casa Ducal de Medinaceli Foundation The collection is kept at the Hospital Tavera, demonstrating the enormous diversity and wealth of documents that these collections contain and the heterogeneous nature of the subjects that the study of their documents allows us to address.
Thus, in front of a large audience, senior researchers such as Pedro Grande, Evaristo Cuadrado, Ángel Campos, Silvia Z. Mitchell, David González, Pedro J. Martínez, Francisco M. Gimeno and José María Domínguez have enriched the meeting with their valuable academic and professional contributions on subjects as diverse as the artistic legacy of the Valide of Philip III, 1st Duke of Lerma, important and unpublished aspects of the regency of Mariana of Austria, trends in the nineteenth-century collecting, the ambassador's correspondence to the Holy See and Viceroy of Naples, IX Duke of Medinaceli as a source for the history of music and particularly of opera or the analysis of autographs obtained from Isabella the Catholic, among others.
The public was able to see at first hand the wealth of documents in the two documentary repositories that the Foundation manages in this magnificent monument in Toledo, the Ducal Archives of Medinaceli and the Archives of the Tavera Hospital, A sign of the Foundation's vocation for archival conservation, as is also indicated by the presence, in this same building, of the Archivo de la Nobleza, which occupies the entire eastern wing, by cession of the Fundación Medinaceli to the Ministry of Culture in 1989.
