Portrait of a young lady

Anonymous
16th century

The head of the sculpture is carved in white marble and the bust in marble of different colours. It is a Renaissance copy of a 2nd-century AD original. The head is very similar to that of another young Roman lady from the Antonine period from the same collection of the Duke of Alcalá in the Hall of Frescoes in the Casa de Pilatos, which may have served as a model. In any case, the hairstyle, the shape of the eyebrows and the marked iris indicate that it is a copy of an original from the Antonine period. The head is very well integrated into the bust and the earlobes are pierced, presumably to hang an ornament.
