Senator togate of the Flavian or Antonine period.

This sculpture, one of the three togatories in the collection of the 1st Duke of Alcalá, is carved, like all the other togatories, from a single block of white marble. He is dressed in tunic and toga, wearing the calcei senatorii, a symbol of his membership of the senatorial order and, as an attribute, he has a scrinium which serves as a support for the sculpture. The left arm, right hand and head are missing, as these elements were carved separately and added at a later date in order to personalise it to the buyer's taste.
