Head of a female portrait from the Antonine period

Roman workshop
2nd century AD

Head of a sculpture, carved in coarse-grained white marble, in which the incision work on the eyes, eyebrows and eyelids is characteristic, as is the hair, divided in two with large waves and gathered in a low bun at the back. This type of hairstyle, also present, with greater definition and sophistication, in the portrait of Faustina minor in this collection, is typical of the Antonine dynasty.
