Of this work, the only original Roman piece is the face, as the back of the skull was reconstructed with mortar, which suggests that it did not belong to a round sculpture but to a high relief from which it was sectioned. The bust is Renaissance. Stylistically it has similarities with the portraits of Augustus of the "Forbes" type, which has led to it being considered either as a preparatory portrait for those of the emperor or as a private portrait inspired by the imperial model.
