Bust of Apollo from the time of the Emperor Hadrian

Roman workshop
2nd century AD

It is composed of two pieces of different origin but similar period. The head is in pure white Carrara marble, without veins, and is a copy of a Greek original from the third quarter of the 5th century BC, made in the time of Hadrian (117-138). The bust is in white veined marble from the same period. The identification with Apollo is rather weak, as it is based on the fact that it is modelled on a head with very similar characteristics in the Vatican Museums, today identified as Apollo, but in which, until very recently, Artemis was recognised.
