Head of Aphrodite "of Cnidus" from the Claudian period.

Larger than life-size female head of the type of the Aphrodite of Cnidus. The Venus of Cnidus, Praxiteles' masterpiece, created around the middle of the 4th century BC, gave rise to numerous copies and variants in both the Hellenistic and Imperial periods. This head would have to be considered as the imperial version of the models inherited from Hellenism. From the treatment of the hair, it could be dated to around the middle of the 1st century, during the reign of the emperor Claudius.
