"The Duke of Segorbe awarded the "Rafael Manzano" prize for classical architecture and restoration".

16 October 2013

"In a solemn ceremony held on 15 October 2013 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando and under the presidency of H.R.H. the Infanta Elena, the second edition of the "Rafael Manzano Martos" prize for Classical Architecture and Monument Restoration was awarded by an international jury to the Duke of Segorbe and Luis Fernando Gómez-Stern for the restoration of the complex known today as Casas de la Judería (Houses of the Jewish Quarter). The project involved restoring to their original state two of the old Jewish quarters of Seville, those of Santiago and San Bartolomé, which were particularly affected by the ruin and neglect suffered by the historic centre of Seville since the 1960s. The intervention is of unusual proportions as it includes four houses of classic stately architecture and fifteen of porpular architecture, has thirty-six courtyards, affects eight streets and has been developed over more than two decades. Driehaus Charitable Trust and which is organised by this institution in collaboration with the School of architecture of the University of Notre Dame seeks to disseminate the values of classical and traditional architecture both in the field of restoration and in new works that are harmoniously integrated into historic complexes".
