More than three centuries after the arrival in Madrid of the image of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno and its deposit in successive chapels under the patronage of the Dukes of Medinaceli, the most remarkable thing about this image, known since then as Jesús de Medinaceli, is not only the overflowing devotion in Madrid, but also its ability to continue spreading the cult throughout the peninsula and even beyond it, creating brotherhoods that bear his name and pay tribute to him throughout Spain and Latin America. With the aim of increasing the knowledge and dissemination of the Faith in Christ under his invocation of Medinaceli, that is to say, of Jesús Cautivo or Rescatado, to encourage the union of the brotherhoods which, transcending the different denominations, share this invocation and to stimulate the conservation of the memory of the history which unites them all, since 1995 national congresses of brotherhoods and brotherhoods of Nuestro Padre Jesús Cautivo y Rescatado de Medinaceli have been held every two years. The Fundación Casa Ducal de Medinaceli, whose founder, Her Excellency Doña Victoria Eugenia Fernández de Córdoba, Duchess of Medinaceli, is the Elder Sister of the Archicofradía Primaria de la Real e Ilustre Esclavitud de N. P. Jesús Nazareno de Medinaceli, is in charge of organising the IX National Congress to be held in the Casa de Pilatos in Seville, a palace whose name derives from its intimate historical link with the commemoration of the Passion of Christ. A place, therefore, charged with symbolism in which we hope to have the honour of welcoming the largest number of brotherhoods and brotherhoods of Jesus Nazareno, Cautivo and Rescatado de Medinaceli.
